“Sampling and evaluation by Health Canada’s Radiation Protection Bureau has determined that these products measure inaccurate radon levels and likely poses a danger to human health or safety,” both recall notices read.
Long-term exposure to radon is the second leading cause for lung cancer in Canada. People use radon detectors to test the level of radon in their homes.
“Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock,” Health Canada explains. “It is invisible, odourless and tasteless.”
When the radon is diluted it’s not a concern, but when it’s found in enclosed spaces, such as a home, levels of the radioactive gas can accumulate and that can become a risk to human health.
