Wimbledon, known as the most prestigious tournament in the professional tennis calendar, is officially underway in the United Kingdom.
The grand slam tournament began today (June 30), with the biggest names in the game competing on the grass courts in Wimbledon, London for the top prize of three million pounds and having their names engraved with the legends who have been victorious since 1877.

Who are the top participants at Wimbledon?
Top seeds for the men’s singles include Jannik Sinner of Italy, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, Alexander Zverev of Germany, Jack Draper of Great Britain, Taylor Fritz of the United States and Novak Djokovic of Serbia.
The women’s singles top seeds are led by Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, Coco Gauff of the United States, Jessica Pegula of the United States, Jasmine Paolini of Italy and Qinwen Zheng of China.
At last year’s tournament, Alcaraz, then the third seed, defeated the second-seeded Djokovic in the men’s singles final. Barbora Krejčíková, ranked 31st, claimed the women’s singles championship by defeating the seventh-seeded Jasmine Paolini.

Which Canadians are participating this year?
In the men’s singles, Félix Auger-Aliassime, seeded 25th, has already won his first-round match against Australia’s James Duckworth in a five-set comeback (6-2, 3-6, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-4).
Denis Shapovalov, the 27th seed, will play his first-round match on Tuesday, July 1, against Argentina’s Mariano Navone at 7:10 a.m. local time.
Gabriel Diallo, who is unseeded, has a first-round match against Germany’s Daniel Altmaier on Monday, June 30, at 12:50 p.m. local time.
For women’s singles, Leylah Fernandez is the sole seeded Canadian at 29th and has already advanced to the second round after winning her first-round match in two sets (6-1, 6-3) against the United Kingdom’s Hannah Klugman.
Unseeded Carson Branstine faced the No. 1 seed, Sabalenka, and was defeated in two sets (6-1, 7-5).

How to watch Wimbledon 2025
This year’s tournament will be televised across Canada on TSN for cable viewers, along with TSN+ for streaming and ESPN for subscribers.
The women’s singles final is set for Saturday, July 12, while the men’s singles final is scheduled for Sunday, July 13.
